Muhammad Aswin Rangkuti (main supervisor), Ph.D., Physics Education, University of Copenhagen, 2024. Title: Learning challenges in the interplay between physics and mathematics: the case of the 1-D wave equation. Thesis available here.

Yuvita Oktarisa (main supervisor), Ph.D., Physics Education, University of Copenhagen, 2021 Title: Connecting Newton’s Gravitational Law with Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion: A Teaching and Learning Sequence for Pre-Service Physics Teachers inspired by Newton’s Original Formulation. Thesis available here.

Pedagogical supervision of assistant professors at UCPH

A significant portion of my teaching at UCPH has been to supervise assistant professors as part of their Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Programme (Universitetspædagogikum in Danish). This involves observing lectures, helping with preparation, and giving feedback on pedagogical themes selected by the teachers. Due to my background, which allows for more subject-specific discussions, I’ve been supervising mainly physicists from the Niels Bohr Institute. Here is a list of some previous supervisees:

BSc and MSc (under construction)

Simon Arent Vedel (main supervisor, co-supervised by Steen Hansen), MSc. in Physics, NBI, University of Copenhagen, 2019. Title: Teaching the Formula of Centripetal Acceleration: A qualitative case study on first year physics students’ challenges with mathematical derivations in mechanics. Thesis available here.

Anders Wolfsberg (main supervisor, co-supervised by Carl Winsløw), MSc. in Mathematics, MATH, University of Copenhagen, 2017. Title: A praxeological investigation of divergence – Exploring challenges of teaching and learning math-in-physics. Thesis available here.

Sebastian Klöser (main supervisor), MSc., University of Hamburg, 2017. Thesis title: Das Verhältnis von Physik und Mathematik, erforscht mit Mitteln des Experteninterviews. Available here.
